01 EBIKE BOOST BUTTON

Fitting the Cytronex C1 electric bicycle conversion kit to a bicycle does not change the way the bike rides when the system is off, so when the terrain is easy, you don’t need assistance. When the going gets tough, just press the ebike Boost Button and smooth, refined and virtually silent assistance powers you up steep hills and through head winds. A Cytronex C1 assisted electric bike rides like no other electric bicycle.

Ebike Boost Button turns on and off with a single press. If you press and hold for one second the button will change colour and provide a different power level. You can set the power for each colour in the C1 App. Whatever power level you choose – your Cytronex ebike will add that precise power level to your cycling effort. Press and hold the ebike Boost Button for two seconds and you can turn on the optional high power LED bicycle lights. Read more

02C1 App

Customise your ride.

The Cytronex water bottle battery connects to your PC via USB whilst in the Charge Shoe so you can use the C1 App. This allows you to set exact power levels and the brightness of LEDs – day or night. The App includes a diagnostic function – in the event of an issue you can send a log file to Cytronex and you can update your system automatically when new software is available. The advanced all British electronics can maintain a precise power level so you can enjoy riding with family or friends. No other ebike does this.

05 CYTRONEX SENSOR

One Sensor, Low Maintenance, Easy fitting

Our multi patented Cytronex sensor replaces the 3 sensors required by other electric bike conversion kits to comply with regulations and fits quickly and easily without bicycle tools. Cytronex sensor detects the movement of a rear sprocket to monitor pedalling and bicycle speed on most bikes and the ultra fast response means a brake sensor is not required.

Sensor head swings out of the way if knocked during bicycle maintenance and can simply be flipped straight back to the original position.

06MOTOR

Discreet small and lightweight motor packs enough power to easily climb hills
and silently pass even the strongest riders.

Our new hub motor wheel is available in disc or V-brake versions, black or silver to match your rear wheel and a variety of sizes to fit your bike. Selecting European C1 provides 25Kmh maximum speed and the USA version has a maximum speed of 20mph. With Boost off, the motor hub is not engaged and the wheel spins freely without resistance. The motor weighs just 2Kg and the complete C1 conversion kit adds just 3.6Kg,- start with a good bicycle and the result is often 5Kg+ lighter than a purpose built electric bike. To charge – turn your bottle upside down and place in the charge shoe. The bottle LED will shine on the Cytronex logo to indicate charge level as charging progresses – if you are in a hurry you can see when you have enough charge for your journey.

Our compact fast chargers and charge indication function are perfect for topping up your battery when you stop for lunch or coffee – the Standard Charger will re-charge about 80% of battery capacity in 2 hours and the Fast Charger will do this in about 1 hour from empty.

I'd ridden a Brompton for seven years before I bought another one with electric conversion in mind. One more year of thinking about it passed before I took the plunge and sent my new(ish) 3 speed to have the Cytronex kit fitted by the company that designed and developed it. For someone familiar with the Brompton's unique advantages, and limitations, I have found this superb conversion to be absolutely delightful. It easily offers extended rural rides and because you can save on battery power at the touch of a button on the bar I have enjoyed journeys amounting to well over 40 miles carrying all my usual luggage. It is one of the very best bits of kit I've ever purchased in over 60 years of cycling.

Up until recently, I used my 2015 Cannondale CAADX Disc Cyclocross twice a week for my 12 mile each-way commute to work – using my car the other times. With a desire to use my bike as much as possible (to become ‘greener’, a little bit fitter, and remove the frustration of traffic jams), I started researching ‘electric conversion kits’ for my bike. I discovered a large number of available kits out there, varying considerably in price and specification. My requirements were that I still wanted to put a fair bit of effort in (for my fitness), desired a kit/system which would not look ‘too out of place’ on my bike, and one which would be simple to install. Having debated it for a number of months, I took the plunge and opted for one of the more expensive options (but technically superior) – the Cytronex C1 system. Having used the system for the past 2 months, I can say that I am very happy with my choice –my only regret being that I didn’t get it sooner. It only took 6 days from ordering the system online to it being delivered. The single box contained all the items, with the new front wheel being completely built – including the disk, inner tube, and tyre. The fitting instructions, which are supplied on a USB stick (which also included the bespoke Cytronex App), are easy to follow and includes photos where needed. I found this straight forward and took around 40 minutes to complete. No specialist tools, modifying of fork dropouts, or experience were required. Never having used an e-bike before, I found the feeling a little bit strange at first – but it did put a smile on my face. The assistance starts smoothly after a second or two of peddling and continues while you peddle until you get to its maximum rated speed. When you get close to the maximum speed (20mph for my US version), it feels as though the assistance tappers off, rather than stopping suddenly, giving a smooth transition. Likewise, when you start to drop below the maximum speed, at the start of an incline for example, the assistance comes back on gradually. Turning the system on or off, and cycling through the 3 power levels (adjustable using the App) is no problem at all – just a quick press or long press of the button required. The bottle battery LED depicting the amount of charge left in it is simple but effective. As is the case for any electric assisted/powered bikes, range is always dependant on a number of factors; assistance level set, amount of effort you put in, weight, headwind, inclines/descents. For my commute, if I use the green power level (lowest setting), I can do my 24 mile round trip using just over 50% of the battery. However, if I’m feeling lazy and use the red level (maximum assistance), I only have just below 25% of battery left after one way (12 miles) – therefore needing to recharge the battery at work. I have used the bike on a few long steep hills and it pulls well, reducing the amount of effort you need to put in. However, you can still peddle hard if you want to, you just end up going faster up the hill. I have only had one minor issue with the system, on the very first day of use. This was as a result of not fitting the sensor correctly – I had set it too far away from the rear cassette. In the two months since, I have not encountered any other problems. Overall, it is an extremely well designed kit which it easy to install, provides good smooth assistance, does not look too out of place, minimal (if any at all) noise, with very friendly service. I would highly recommend it.

This is an updated review of my experiences with the C1-Cytronex conversion. In a previous review I recounted my 5¾ mile 2049ft climb up the Bealach Na Bà overlooking Skye in North West Scotland. Despite this being one of the longest climbs in Britain I reached the summit with around 40% battery remaining. I am now approaching three years since I added the conversion to my 15 year old Claud Butler. Despite the bike being heavy the conversion provides ample power when needed and, unlike many e-bikes, my Claud Butler rolls easily with the power off thus extending my range. The most recent photo below show the bike and its rider on 23rd February 2021 part way round a ride in the Sussex Weald north of where we live. Amazingly I returned home after 17½ miles and 970ft of climbing with the battery indicator light showing green thus 3/4 charge was remaining. The battery seems to hold as much charge as it did when purchased three years ago. Another quality is the quietness of the system. My wife’s Pendleton e-bike sounds like a milk float in comparison but at least I can hear her if she is behind on a climb.
